Major sponsor announced as The Cliftonville hosts Poppyland Radio Awards Gala Night

The inaugural 2025 Poppyland Radio Awards have been launched to celebrate all that’s good about the businesses, enterprises and people of North Norfolk. The Awards will culminate in a Gala Awards Night at The Cliftonville in Cromer.

Mike Goldwater of Poppyland Radio created the awards after hearing stories about ‘Local Treasures’ in their hit show ‘The Norfolk Treasure Hunt’. Similarly, he felt that many of the local characters and business leaders interviewed in ‘Home Truths’ were also deserving of special recognition.

Tom Pickard, General Manager of The Cliftonville, agreed.

“We welcome a wide range of people to The Cliftonville for weddings, celebrations of life and birthday parties. We feature a variety of versatile spaces to suit a range of purposes. Our wonderful Edwardian restaurant and bar, sun-soaked sea-view terrace and our peaceful lounges are perfect for ‘working remotely’ and admiring the spectacular sea views.

Local businesses also appreciate our function rooms, conference facilities and meeting rooms of all shapes and sizes. We’re delighted to support all those businesses. That’s why we were keen to sponsor and host the Poppyland Radio Awards Gala Presentation Night. It’s a perfect partnership.”

The Poppyland Radio Awards consist of nine awards categories. Listeners and members of the public are invited to nominate local businesses, organisations, groups, and inspirational characters. A panel of VIP judges will then draw up a final shortlist for each of nine awards categories. From 1 July, the public then vote for their favourite finalist in each category. The winners will be revealed in October at the star-studded Gala Awards Night held in the prestigious Ballroom at The Cliftonville. Andrew Brammer, Poppyland Radio presenter and creator of the ever-popular Stumpy Sanderson's 70s Stories show, will compère the event.

NOTES FOR EDITORS

POPPYLAND COMMUNITY RADIO

Launched in February 2022, Poppyland Radio is a digital radio station serving communities across North Norfolk. As a Community Interest Company (CIC), the station was created to benefit the community and the listeners rather than private shareholders, and is run entirely by volunteers.

Shows are produced in a dedicated studio in North Norfolk and from an outside broadcast rig – ideal for live events and community gatherings. Whilst mainstream and special interest music shows feature prominently in the schedule, a broad range of talk shows and specialist content serves the many and varied interests of the listeners.
