Poppyland Radio Presenters lead national charity league table...

Poppyland Radio presenters Claire Goldwater (The Mardle), Scott Butler (Beyond the Beaten Track) and their fellow 'Mermates of Overstrand' lead the national table of fundraisers for the Cancer Research UK '12 Dips of December'.

The Mermates - a social team of wild water swimmers based in North Norfolk - all braved the bitterly cold North Sea for at least 12 dips each during December. Each dip was a full immersion in the sea despite water temperatures of just five or six degrees some days. That is VERY cold! The culmination of their fundraising expolits took place on Boxing Day at Overstrand beach, when they were joined by hundreds of brave villagers to complete their challenge.

The Mermates of Overstrand complete their Cancer Research UK fundraiser in style

Between them, the Mermaids completed 100 dips, raising precious funds for Cancer Research UK. They top the Cancer Research UK national fundraising table for the 12 Dips of December with over £9,250 in donations including Gift Aid. Julie Masters, one of the Mermates founding members, was delighted to see the total steadily climb and is especially proud to be leading the national fundraising league.

“So many families are affected by cancer these days. To be able to help fund research into cancer is an important and fantastic achievement and we are so grateful to all our sponsors and donors.”
